Fortune Cookie Film wurde 2006 von Ulrike Grote und Ilona Schultz gegründet. Beide lernten sich beim Film-Studium der Universität Hamburg kennen. Ulrike Grote, damals bereits eine gestandene und vielfach ausgezeichnete Theater- und Fernsehschauspielerin, lernte bei Hark Bohm das Regiehandwerk. Bereits ihr Abschlussfilm „Ausreißer“ gewann u.a. den Studenten-Oscar und brachte ihr eine Oscar-Nominierung ein. Mina Avramova stieß 2012 zu Fortune Cookie Film. Die in Sofia geborene Produzentin begeisterte sich bereits während ihres Studiums an der Weimarer Bauhaus Universität für das Kino. Schon früh in ihrer Karriere entdeckte sie ihre Leidenschaft fürs Produzieren und realisierte einige Formate an der Seite der Produzentin Ilona Schutz, bevor sie diese 2021 als Geschäftsführerin ablöste. Fortune Cookie Film steht für nachhaltiges Produzieren, Fairness und Respekt vor und hinter der Kamera. Dies konnte das Unternehmen in den vergangenen Jahren oft unter Beweis stellen. Bereits im Jahr 2014 wurde Fortune Cookie Film mit dem Preis „Starker Einsatz“ vom BFFS und ver.di ausgezeichnet, 2020 folgte der Fair Film Award von crew united.

Fortune Cookie Film was founded in 2006 by Ulrike Grote and Ilona Schultz. Both met while studying film at the University of Hamburg. Ulrike Grote, already an established and award-winning theatre and television actress at the time, learned the craft of directing from Hark Bohm. Her graduation film „Runaways“ won the Student Oscar and earned her an Oscar nomination. Mina Avramova joined Fortune Cookie Film in 2012. The Sofia-born producer was already enthusiastic about cinema during her studies at the Bauhaus University in Weimar. She discovered her passion for producing early on in her career and realised several formats alongside producer Ilona Schutz before replacing her as Managing Director in 2021. Fortune Cookie Film stands for sustainable production, fairness and respect in front of and behind the camera. The company has been able to prove this many times in recent years. Back in 2014, Fortune Cookie Film was honoured with the „Strong Commitment“ award from the BFFS and ver.di, followed by the Fair Film Award from crew united in 2020.
