Gloomy vision of the future: filming for NDR's new "Nordlichter" film "Hygge" with Eva Maria Jost, Bayan Layla, Jenny Elvers, André Hennicke and Catrin Striebeck
Horror, satire and drama: the new "Nordlichter" project "Hygge" (working title) about a reality TV show of the same name combines all three genres. The authors and directors of this vision of the future are Lena Fakler and Zarah Schrade, both of whom have already realised their first feature films and series projects for NDR, among others. The cast includes Eva Maria Jost (Levi), Bayan Layla (Minu), Jenny Elvers (Xenia), Vu Dinh (Fred), André Hennicke (Joachim), Pheline Roggan (Carola), Malte Thomsen (Carl) and Catrin Striebeck (Marijke). The film will be shot mainly in Kappeln (Schleswig-Flensburg district) and Gartow (Lüchow-Dannenberg district) until 7 November.
Â
With the talent promotion programme "Nordlichter", NDR, MOIN Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein and nordmedia - Film und Medienförderung Niedersachsen/Bremen offer young filmmakers the chance to tell modern and unconventional North German genre stories. It is not yet clear when "Hygge" will be released in the cinema and then in the ARD media library and on NDR television.

Synopsis: A dream comes true for Levi when she and her partner Minu are chosen to take part in the reality TV programme "Hygge", which promotes the sweet life in cosy Swedish houses and small families on an idyllic North Sea island. Especially because strict birth control has now been introduced in the "real" world to keep the climate reasonably stable - and taking part in the show is the only chance of artificial insemination for the two of them. But no matter how hard Levi tries, she doesn't quite succeed in integrating herself into the community of participants and submitting to the rules of the show. While Minu feels like a fish in water.
Â
Even when the production makes it a condition that Levi carries the child instead of Minu and is supposed to find her feminine energy after a makeover, Levi continues to try and adapt. But when contestant Barbara Levi asks for help in finding her daughter, who has been taken away from her by the production, Levi is forced to question the entire "Hygge" system. She flees and ends up behind the fence surrounding the production site in the forest, where she meets other outcasts from the show ...
