Shooting for the latest film in the RTL crime series Miss Merkel at the beginning of January 2025 on the cruise ship Mein Schiff 5 began when the ship set sail from Tenerife. In the third film adaptation of David Safier's successful series of novels, Katharina Thalbach once again takes on the role of former chancellor Angela Merkel, who solves exciting criminal cases as an amateur detective. She is again accompanied by her husband Joachim (Thorsten Merten) and her bodyguard Mike (Tim Kalkhof), while her pug "Helmut" is not in the film this time.

The new film with the title Miss Merkel - A cruise thriller is set on a cruise across the Atlantic. Angela Merkel and her companions are expecting a relaxing holiday, but this is abruptly disrupted when thriller megastar Florian Watzek dies on board. The other prominent crime writers on board become prime suspects, and Angela Merkel has to become active as a detective again.

The new crime thriller is supported by a well-known cast, including Stephan Luca, Lara Mandoki and Mai Duong Kieu. Miss Merkel has already enjoyed international success, including in the USA and Italy. The film adaptation is based on the novel Miss Merkel: Murder on the high seas by David Safier and is being produced by Letterbox Filmproduktion. It is scheduled to be broadcast on RTL and RTL+ in 2025.
