TOBIS Film is one of Germany's leading independent film distributors. Since it was founded in 1971, more than 400 national and international titles have delighted over 225 million cinema-goers throughout the DACH region. The portfolio includes classics such as "The Fifth Element", "Hannibal" and the "Bad Moms" franchise as well as Oscar-nominated and award-winning films such as "Amadeus", "The Pianist", "Brokeback Mountain", "12 Years A Slave" and, most recently, "The Father". The two most recent in-house productions "The Most Beautiful Girl in the World" and "Catweazle" alone attracted more than 1.2 million cinema-goers.
Current international TOBIS co-productions include "The Magic Flute", a modern interpretation of Mozart's classic opera for the whole family, the biopic "Lady Nazca" about the German mathematician Maria Reiche, who pioneered research into the mysterious Nazca Lines in Peru in the 1940s, and "A Whole Life", an adaptation of the international bestseller by Robert Seethaler directed by Marcus H. Rosenmüller. The Robbie Williams biopic "Better Man" and the latest in-house production "Hunting Season" are just some of the other highlights of the upcoming TOBIS distribution season. In addition, TOBIS, together with ZDF and Syrreal Entertainment, co-produced Christian Alvart's eight-part TV series "Sløborn", about the outbreak of a deadly virus, which impressed with its explosive topicality when it was broadcast in summer 2020 and will be continued with a second season on free TV in early 2022.
