Despite the tight budget situation, the federal government is planning around 2.25 billion euros for culture and media in the coming year - an increase of more than 50 million euros compared to the previous year. This is according to the second government draft for the 2025 federal budget, which the Federal Cabinet approved on 24 June.

Minister of State for Culture Wolfram Weimer emphasised that the federal government remains a reliable partner for the cultural and media landscape. Especially in difficult times, it is important to take responsibility and safeguard Germany's cultural wealth and media diversity.

A particular focus of the draft budget is on investment in cultural buildings. More than an additional 50 million euros have been earmarked for projects that are ready for construction and can start as soon as the 2025 budget comes into force.

The draft budget still has to go through the parliamentary procedure before it is finalised.
