SWR is launching a new innovation project and testing how virtual studio technology can redefine traditional formats. Highlight: The interactive pen & paper show "Fehler im System" with well-known streamers and actors, live on Twitch.

Since September 2025, SWR has been experimenting with Virtual Production in Studio 6 in Baden-Baden. Digital worlds are created on a huge LED wall and synchronised live with cameras - real and virtual elements merge in real time.

The focus is on the format "Error in the system"an interactive pen & paper role-playing game. On 24 and 25 October, streamers and actors will immerse themselves in a dystopian world for four hours each. The live broadcast starts at 7 pm on twitch.tv/ard.

Technically, SWR relies on a Crystal LED VERONA wall and the tracking system OCELLUS from Sony. The virtual sets were created in the Unreal Engine and offer a realistic 3D representation thanks to the parallax effect.

The project aims to show how virtual production can be used in future in SWR's own productions for entertainment, culture and information - with a view to efficiency, creative freedom and new digital target groups.
