From 2027, the British broadcaster will be bringing its linear programming and a wide range of on-demand content to the streaming platform.
Disney+ and Channel 4 have agreed a comprehensive distribution partnership for the UK and Ireland. From early 2027, subscribers to the streaming service will have access to Channel 4’s linear HD channel, as well as hundreds of hours of series, entertainment programmes and other content. The content will be available at no extra cost as part of the existing Disney+ subscription.
The agreement also provides for selected new programmes to be made available on Disney+ at the same time as they are broadcast on Channel 4. Among the first titles announced are the drama „Maya“, starring Bella Ramsey, the comedy series „Stepping Up“ and the reality show „Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins“. Further content includes episodes from the series „Big Mood“ and „Tip Toe“, amongst others.
The programmes will be grouped together within a dedicated Channel 4 section on Disney+. For the British broadcaster, the partnership opens up additional distribution channels and access to new audiences. At the same time, Disney+ is expanding its offering to include local content and a linear TV service.
Channel 4 chief Priya Dogra described the partnership as an opportunity to expand the reach of the channel’s own productions. Adam Smith, who is responsible for direct-to-consumer business at Disney Entertainment, highlighted the strategic importance of local programme partnerships.
The agreement is part of a growing trend towards collaboration between traditional broadcasters and streaming platforms. Disney+ had already entered into a partnership with ITV. In France, Netflix and TF1 have also agreed a partnership that covers not only on-demand content but also linear channels. Financial details of the deal with Channel 4 have not been disclosed.
