In 1982, the two Frankfurt cinema operators Karl Baumgartner and Reinhard Brundig founded the Pandora Film Distribution. The name was inspired by G.W. Pabst's film "Pandora's Box". Close working relationships soon developed between Pandora and directors such as Aki Kaurismäki and Jim Jarmusch. But it was not until Jane Campion's THE PIANO Pandora the first major commercial breakthrough. The concept of presenting excellent cinematic masterpieces by internationally renowned filmmakers to a German audience was a success, and Pandora Film became one of the most prominent distributors in this market segment. Today Pandora Film as an independent production, marketing and distribution company with the aim of continuing to grow through quality rather than quantity.
