Kathleen Kennedy will step down as President of Lucasfilm at the end of 2025, and the search for her successor for one of the most difficult and prestigious jobs in Hollywood begins. The new person in charge must not only have a creative vision for the future of Star Wars but also master the balancing act between artistic integrity and commercial success.

Under Kennedy's leadership Star Wars has been struggling with creative problems - many announced film projects have failed or been cancelled. In addition, Lucasfilm has not released a new film since 2019. While streaming series such as The Mandalorian successes, other projects were cancelled at an early stage.

The potential successors must have in-depth knowledge of both the Star Wars-mythology as well as management skills. Names such as Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni and Peter Rice are being touted as possible candidates. A duo similar to James Gunn and Peter Safran at DC could also be a solution.

Despite criticism, Kennedy remains one of Hollywood's most successful female producers and has Star Wars kept alive after George Lucas' retirement. Now the franchise is facing a new direction - at a time when many major film series (Marvel, Mission: Impossible, Harry Potter) are struggling with similar challenges. The future of Star Wars depends on whether it succeeds in providing fresh creative impetus without losing the roots of the saga.

Variety reports in detail.
