Kelly Day has taken on an expanded role at Prime Video following the departure of Jennifer Salke. The decision was confirmed by Mike Hopkins, the head of Prime Video, in an internal announcement. Day will now take on responsibility for international originals in addition to her previous responsibilities as Vice President for Prime Video International. This means that she will now oversee all of Prime Video's international original production, which previously fell under Jennifer Salke and her team.

Jennifer Salke had left Prime Video after seven years, which according to reports in the industry was partly related to Amazon's new direction and the replacement of the "James Bond" rights. It has been speculated that the decision to replace Salke is linked to the upcoming James Bond project and the associated strategic realignment, as Salke, whose background was primarily in TV, did not play the desired role in this issue.

Before Day, James Farrell was responsible for international Originals, but he also left Amazon at the beginning of this year. Following his departure, Kelly Day will now take over and also appoint a new Vice President of International Originals who will report directly to her. In the meantime, the regional heads of International Originals - Javiera Balmaceda (Latin America, Canada and Australia), Tara Erer (Northern Europe) and Nicole Morganti (Southern Europe) - will report directly to Day.

Kelly Day, who joined Amazon in 2022, had previously held senior positions at ViacomCBS, Discovery, AwesomenessTV and AOL. At Amazon, she initially assumed responsibility for Prime Video outside the US, overseeing teams in Europe, Latin America and Asia Pacific. In 2023, her responsibilities expanded to include oversight of Amazon MGM Global Distribution, MGM Scripted Television and MGM+.

Under her leadership, Prime Video has achieved great success in international originals in recent years, especially with films and series that have become popular worldwide. Successful projects such as "Culpa Tuya" and "Max Hall - The World Between Us" as well as recurring series such as "Clarkson's Farm" and "Betty La Fea" have helped Prime Video to attract an international audience and further expand the platform. The international originals play an important role in Prime Video's growth plan as they appeal to new customers in more than 20 countries.

Mike Hopkins' announcement also highlighted a number of upcoming projects, including "Newtopia" from South Korea, "Superboys of Malegaon" from India, "Graduation Trip: Mallorca" from Spain and "Costiera" from Italy. These projects should further strengthen confidence in the future of international Originals.

Jennifer Salke will enter into an initial producer agreement with Amazon following her departure, but the position of studio head will not be replaced in Amazon's new structure. The change at Amazon is also expected to be linked to developments around the "James Bond" franchise, in particular the takeover of creative control of the Bond films following a 1 billion dollar agreement in February 2023.
