After eleven years at the helm of RTL Zwei and the production company El Cartel, Andreas Bartl has announced his retirement from the company. The long-standing managing director is leaving the broadcaster on 30 June 2025 at his own request and on the best of terms with the shareholders. Until a successor is found, CFO and COO Nicole Glatzmaier will manage the company on an interim basis.

Under Bartl's leadership, RTL Zwei has successfully repositioned itself in an increasingly difficult media environment. Formats such as Love Island, Battle of the reality stars, Hartz and hearty, Poor Germany and Bella Italia have strongly characterised the channel and established it with a young audience. RTL Zwei under Bartl has set decisive impulses in the German TV and streaming market through target group-specific content that is played out both on traditional television and via digital platforms.

In addition to the programme focus, Bartl also played a key role in shaping the corporate culture. His management style was characterised by openness, a spirit of innovation and teamwork. The shareholders honoured his achievements and emphasised that RTL Zwei is now well equipped for the digital future.

Bartl himself expressed his gratitude for the time spent together with his team, the producers, partners and protagonists of the programmes. "We have achieved a lot together," he said. In particular, he emphasised that the transition from a traditional TV station to a digital multi-channel provider had been successfully initiated - a fitting time for him to pass on the sceptre.

Before joining RTL Zwei in 2014, Bartl held a number of management positions at ProSiebenSat.1, including Chief Television Officer and Managing Director of Sat.1, ProSieben and kabel eins. He began his career in the 1990s as an editor at ProSieben. His professional future is still open.
