This is the first time that a clear legal framework for the use of AI by an international streaming provider has been created in Germany.<\/p><p data-start=\"593\" data-end=\"893\">The two agreements extend the existing Joint Remuneration Rules (JRR) and define how AI may be used in future, taking into account personal rights and copyrights. The aim is to achieve a fair balance between technological innovation and creative control.<\/p><p data-start=\"895\" data-end=\"916\"><strong data-start=\"895\" data-end=\"916\">What is regulated?<\/strong><\/p><p data-start=\"918\" data-end=\"968\">The contracts cover three central AI scenarios:<\/p><ul data-start=\"969\" data-end=\"1326\"><li data-start=\"969\" data-end=\"1100\"><p data-start=\"971\" data-end=\"1100\"><strong data-start=\"971\" data-end=\"995\">Digital processing<\/strong>When AI subsequently changes an actor's performance - such as facial expressions, speech or action.<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"1101\" data-end=\"1202\"><p data-start=\"1103\" data-end=\"1202\"><strong data-start=\"1103\" data-end=\"1127\">Digital replica<\/strong>When the voice or appearance of a real person is reproduced by AI.<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"1203\" data-end=\"1326\"><p data-start=\"1205\" data-end=\"1326\"><strong data-start=\"1205\" data-end=\"1229\">Digital mixing<\/strong>When AI generates synthetic actors or voices based on several real models.<\/p><\/li><\/ul><p data-start=\"1328\" data-end=\"1459\">In all cases, use is only permitted with the express written consent of the actors concerned.<\/p><p data-start=\"1461\" data-end=\"1487\"><strong data-start=\"1461\" data-end=\"1487\">\"An important signal\"<\/strong><\/p><p data-start=\"1489\" data-end=\"1703\">\"Netflix and the BFFS show that the use of AI does not have to be chaotic or threatening - but can be organised in a legally clean and cooperative manner,\" explains BFFS legal counsel Bernhard F. St\u00f6rkmann.<\/p><p data-start=\"1705\" data-end=\"2006\">Board member Dr Till V\u00f6lger sees the contracts as a model for the entire industry, especially in the voice and dubbing sector. Heinrich Schafmeister, authorised representative of the BFFS, also emphasises: \"We no longer have to be afraid of being digitally changed or replaced without consent.\"<\/p><p data-start=\"2008\" data-end=\"2260\">Netflix and the BFFS broke new ground back in 2020 with the first joint remuneration rules for filmmakers.
