Berlin, 24 September 2025<\/em> - The German film and television industry is demanding a clear signal from the federal government: the law on the Investment commitment<\/strong> must finally be set in motion. In a joint appeal, filmmakers, production companies and associations emphasise that this regulation is crucial for the future of the local film industry.<\/p>

The planned investment obligation stipulates that streaming services and TV broadcasters reinvest a fixed proportion of their revenues generated in Germany in German productions<\/strong>. According to the signatories, this would keep added value in the country, secure jobs and strengthen cultural diversity.<\/p>

\"Our creatives, our companies and our film locations are world-class, which is why Germany needs the film reform promised in the coalition agreement,\" emphasises Michelle M\u00fcntefering, CEO of Produktionsallianz. Susanne Binninger from AG DOK also describes the investment obligation as an \"indispensable component of the film funding reform\".<\/p>

Support also comes from the German Film Academy: Board member Martin Heisler warns that only a legal obligation can ensure \"creativity, diversity and international visibility\".<\/p>

Indie producer Jakob Weydemann emphasises the importance for independent filmmakers. Especially in view of the scarcity of public funds, the investment commitment is an \"important contribution to strengthening Germany as a film location\".<\/p>
