The Medien- und Filmgesellschaft Baden-W\u00fcrttemberg (MFG) is about to undergo a change at the top. From 1 July 2026, Wiebke Wiesner will take over as Managing Director, succeeding Carl Bergengruen, who has headed the institution since 2013 and will retire next year. The new Managing Director's contract will initially run for five years.<\/p>

With Wiesner, an experienced expert from the film and media industry is taking over as head of MFG. The 49-year-old is moving from Produktionsallianz, where she has worked as legal advisor and deputy managing director since 2023 and took over as acting director in 2025. She previously worked at central film funding institutions at state and federal level, including Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg and the German Federal Film Board (FFA).<\/p>

State Secretary for the Arts Arne Braun described the personnel decision as an \"important step for Baden-W\u00fcrttemberg as a media location\". According to Braun, Wiesner combines a passion for film with experience and strategic thinking. She knows how the industry is networked and how film funding works. With her expertise and dynamism, she has convinced the supervisory board and will lead the location into the future with energy.<\/p>

SWR programme director Clemens Bratzler also welcomed the decision and emphasised that the new appointment underlines the state's claim to continue to set standards in media, film and the creative industries. Wiesner has all the prerequisites to continue the successful era of her predecessor and to provide new impetus.<\/p>

Wiesner herself spoke of her great anticipation for her new role. She sees the coming years as an opportunity to continue what has been tried and tested together with the MFG team and to develop new ideas. At the same time, she paid tribute to Carl Bergengruen for his many years of commitment and formative work at the helm of MFG. She emphasised that the current challenges for the film and media location are great, but so are the opportunities to make the regional cultural and creative industries fit for the future.<\/p>

The designated Managing Director is recognised as a high-profile expert in film funding and media policy issues. She is a deputy member of the FFA's board of directors, chairwoman of the guidelines committee and active in several committees on the topic of sustainable film production. She was also involved in the introduction of games funding at Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg and negotiated Germany's first collective AI agreement for the Production Alliance.<\/p>
