The Mediengründerzentrum NRW (MGZ) in Cologne has a new Managing Director: since 1 December, Jonathan Natzel has been at the helm of the institution, which has been supporting and guiding young media companies in North Rhine-Westphalia for years. He succeeds Rainer Weiland, who left the MGZ in the summer. Film and Media Foundation boss Walid Nakschbandi had taken over the management on an interim basis.

Natzel has extensive experience in the media industry. He has been active in various innovation and digital projects, has founded his own company and has worked for many years at the interface between the creative industries, entrepreneurship and consulting. This mix of practice and strategy is seen as an advantage for the MGZ, which intends to develop further in the coming years.

The centre's sponsors also welcome the appointment. Representatives of the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW and the City of Cologne emphasise that start-up support is more important than ever in view of the ongoing upheavals in the media landscape. With Natzel, the centre is well equipped to continue providing targeted support for talent and start-ups.

The new Managing Director himself is ambitious about the coming months. The MGZ will soon be celebrating its 20th anniversary - an ideal time for Natzel to set new impulses together with the team and further develop the centre's programmes. The aim is to offer founders even better framework conditions and to strengthen the centre as a driver of innovation for NRW.

The change at the top marks the beginning of a new phase for the MGZ, in which proven promotional work and new ideas will interact.
