Despite considerable uncertainty due to the suspension of federal film subsidies \u00d6FIplus<\/strong> and FISAplus<\/strong> the film location of Vienna in 2025, according to the Vienna Film Commission<\/strong> held up well. At a press conference on 25 February, representatives of the Commission and the city drew a positive balance of the past year.<\/p>

According to the managing director Marijana Stoisits<\/strong> the number of applications submitted for national and international filming rose once again, despite the difficult nationwide conditions. She sees the increase in demand for Vienna as a filming location as confirmation of the work of the Film Commission.<\/p>

Also Veronica Kaup-Hasler<\/strong>Vienna's City Councillor for Culture and Science, emphasised Vienna's attractiveness. She emphasised that the city is in high demand both nationally and internationally and that current investments in film funding and infrastructure - such as the expansion of the Vienna Film Incentive<\/strong> and the HQ7 Studios<\/strong> - the framework conditions have continued to improve. The presence of twelve Austrian films at the Berlinale, including two in the Competition, emphasises this development.<\/p>

In 2025, the Vienna Film Commission received 755 project applications<\/strong> in. For these, a total of 1,382 letters of recommendation<\/strong> This development was primarily driven by a strong first half of the year, in which funding from previous years could still be utilised. The volume of filming rose by 25 % in the first half of the year, but fell by nine per cent in the second.<\/p>

For the first time, several international feature film projects whose storylines are set in other cities were also realised in Vienna. Examples of this are productions such as The constable<\/em>, Schwarz cookery school<\/em> and The murderers' finest hour<\/em>.<\/p>

In terms of location utilisation, the Innere Stadt was the most popular with around 21.8 % of filming, followed by districts such as Landstra\u00dfe, Leopoldstadt and Alsergrund. Parks, green spaces and urban locations along the Danube and the Danube Canal were particularly popular.<\/p>

For 2026, the Vienna Film Commission believes that the further development of the production location is heavily dependent on the amount and availability of film funding and incentives, especially at federal level.
