Amazon MGM Studios is concretising its plans for its own international theatrical distribution and is continuing the strategic expansion of its distribution structures. With the appointment of Scott Sargeant as Head of Theatrical Distribution for the UK and Ireland, another key position has now been filled in one of the most important European markets.<\/p>

Sargeant, who previously worked for Black Bear, STX, Universal and eOne, among others, will take on a central role in the studio's future European distribution network. His appointment is one in a series of personnel decisions that Amazon MGM Studios has been making since the beginning of the year to strengthen its international presence. Management positions for Australia, New Zealand, South East Asia and Italy have already been filled.<\/p>

Parallel to these structural developments, the commercial success of current productions also underlines the studio's ambitions in the cinema market. With the global launch of \"The Astronaut - Project Hail Mary\", which achieved box office takings of around USD 141 million, Amazon MGM Studios was able to set several new records and strengthen its position in international competition.<\/p>

The developments are of particular interest for the German market: A Head of Germany Theatrical Marketing is currently still being sought, with possible locations in Berlin and Munich. This indicates that the company could also establish its own distribution structures in Germany in the medium term.<\/p>

To date, the international cinema release of Amazon MGM titles in many territories - including Germany - has been handled by Sony Pictures as a distribution partner. An existing multi-year agreement provides for this cooperation to continue in those territories where Amazon MGM Studios has not yet established its own structures.<\/p>

The industry is now keeping a close eye on how quickly and to what extent Amazon continues to expand its distribution activities.
