The Lübeck Nordic Film Festival is set for a change in leadership: the Hanseatic City of Lübeck has advertised the position of managing director of this long-established festival. This follows the announcement that Susanne Kasimir is to retire, stepping down from her role on 1 May 2027.

Kasimir has played a key organisational role in shaping the festival for many years and will remain fully responsible for its management up to and including the 2026 edition. Thereafter, she will support the new management team during their induction, thereby ensuring a smooth transition.

The succession is to be finalised at an early stage. Applications for the advertised post may be submitted until 1 June 2026. The Hanseatic City has deliberately opted for a longer transition period in order to ensure continuity at the helm of the festival. The future management team is to begin preparatory work in advance and officially take over from spring 2027.

In terms of scope, the role entails overall organisational, financial and strategic responsibility for one of the most significant film festivals in Northern and North-Eastern Europe. This includes, amongst other things, budget planning, securing funding, sponsorship, marketing, personnel management and the further development of the festival’s profile in close consultation with the artistic director.

The Lübeck Nordic Film Festival is regarded as one of the most important festivals for Nordic cinema outside Scandinavia and is firmly established in the cultural landscape of the Hanseatic city. Every year, the festival presents an extensive programme of feature films, documentaries, short films, series and immersive formats.

According to the city, by issuing the call for applications at an early stage, it is aiming to ensure a „seamless transition“ and a structured handover within the festival management team.
