Live coverage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be broadcast on MagentaTV<\/span><\/span> technically supported by a wide-ranging production network. A key role is played by DMC Production Germany<\/span><\/span>, which, as a technical service provider and studio partner, is responsible for the entire production infrastructure.<\/p>

The project was commissioned by the thinXpool TV GmbH<\/span><\/span>, Deutsche Telekom\u2019s main contractor for the implementation of the technical studio infrastructure.<\/p>

Two main studio locations in New York and Munich<\/h3>

At the heart of MagentaTV\u2019s World Cup production are two closely linked locations: a main studio in New York and the home studio in Munich. Whilst New York serves as the central production and broadcast hub for live coverage from the USA, Munich acts as the control and conference centre. Among other things, the remote production from the New York studio is coordinated from there.<\/p>

The Munich facility also includes a separate conference studio and serves as a technical control centre for various production and control processes.<\/p>

Overall technical responsibility at DMC<\/h3>

According to its own statements, DMC Production Germany is responsible for the entire in-house technical production infrastructure at both sites. This includes, amongst other things, the planning, integration and operation of the studio and production systems.<\/p>

The range of services includes, in particular, IP-based broadcast services such as signal management and conversion, playout and feed enhancement, as well as gallery production for all broadcasters involved in the World Cup. In addition, there are ingest, recording and file management systems that ensure a seamless production workflow.<\/p>

The architecture is designed for a highly interconnected, IP-based production environment that supports both traditional broadcast requirements and modern streaming workflows.<\/p>

Focus on remote production and IP-based workflows<\/h3>

A key aspect of the project is the increasing shift of production processes towards remote and IP-based structures. The combination of New York and Munich makes it possible to manage video and audio production across multiple locations and to respond flexibly to live situations.<\/p>

The technical implementation thus follows a clear industry trend: away from production studios tied solely to a local area, towards scalable, networked production architectures capable of serving multiple markets and platforms simultaneously.<\/p>

Requirements for quality and scalability<\/h3>

Those in charge place particular emphasis on the need for a highly available and future-proof infrastructure. In addition to traditional signal distribution, the focus is also on modern distribution formats, including UHD productions and immersive audio formats such as Dolby Atmos.<\/p>

The aim is to ensure a consistent live experience across all distribution channels \u2013 regardless of whether the content is consumed linearly or via digital platforms.<\/p>

Implications for the German broadcasting landscape<\/h3>

The collaboration between MagentaTV, DMC Production Germany and thinXpool is a prime example of how large-scale live sports productions are organised today: through specialised service providers, modular production chains and highly technologised infrastructure models.<\/p>
