When primary school teacher Sabine Schuster (Ann-Kathrin Kramer) unexpectedly suffers a stroke, she and her husband Stefan (Harald Krassnitzer) not only begin a grueling battle against the illness, but above all for their love, their life together and a new lightness that has long been lost from their marriage. While Sabine has to painstakingly relearn many things in rehab, such as speaking or walking, Stefan adapts the house in Ilmenau, Thuringia, to his wife's needs. But Sabine is so disappointed with her condition that she initially resists anything that might help her recovery. Out of shame, she avoids contact with her familiar surroundings. Seemingly lost in the "mills" of the care system, the new carer Iryna (Irina Potapenko), organized by Stefan, brings new hope with her very own, optimistic and demanding manner. When it becomes clear that Sabine and Stefan will not be able to win the battle against the disease in the foreseeable future, they have to ask themselves whether their love is still strong enough for a life together.
