While many opposition members of the GDR emigrated to West Germany in the early 1980s, the well-known singer-songwriter Bettina Wegner remained steadfast in her homeland despite all resistance. Although she had to go to prison as a young mother, she continued to believe that it was worth fighting to make the GDR a better, freer society. However, life as an unwanted person in the state became a severe test for her and her family.
