The community of Windberg, in the Altmark region right next to the Soviet firing range, is undergoing change. The will of the people has just swept away the old structures and the D-Mark is already just around the corner. NVA returnee Danilo Schrader finds his father Heinz, the village's ABV, humiliated. On the night of the currency union, Danilo surprisingly meets his friends from childhood. On the one hand there is Resa, the half-Cuban woman, to whom Danilo wants to confess his love, and on the other hand Dirk Jaffke, whose family emigrated hastily to the West at that time. He makes his friend a tempting offer. He is willing to invest money in the establishment of a hemp plantation. In the structurally weak Altmark region, this seems like winning the lottery, so Danilo seizes his chance and manages to set up a functioning plantation in no time. In keeping with the Chancellor's quote: "Blooming landscapes".
