Asan, a Syrian Kurd, fled to Germany via the Balkan route in the fall of 2015. He falls in love with Beate, she becomes pregnant and the two move to Beate's East German home village in the Harz Mountains. Resentment in the village grows quickly, and Asan's room for maneuver diminishes. He leaves his young family and goes back to Syria. The film ends in 2022, when Beate visits him with their son.
