Resident Evil revolve around the Umbrella Corporation, a pharmaceutical giant secretly developing mutagenic viruses for bio-organic weapon (BOW) research. These viruses transform humans into zombies and mutate flora and fauna into monstrous creatures. The corporation wields significant influence over Raccoon City, a fictional Midwestern U.S. city. Members of the elite STARS task force are lured to a mansion near the city, uncovering a hidden Umbrella lab. As zombies and BOWs decimate their team, survivors Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine face betrayal by teammate Albert Wesker, a double agent. Wesker's plans are thwarted when a Tyrant seemingly kills him.
