Season 2 continues the dramatic rise and consequences of the oil boom in the Lüneburg Heath around 1900. Johanna and Richard remain at the center of the story as the struggle for “black gold” intensifies and new power structures emerge. As wealth in the region grows, tensions escalate between the old elites and the new profiteers. Personal relationships are put to the test, loyalties are broken, and past decisions begin to catch up with the characters. With industrialization accelerating, love, morality, and identity come under increasing pressure – forcing everyone to decide what price they are willing to pay for success and survival.
