Dirk Manthey Film UG wurde im Jahr 2000 in Hamburg gegründet. Seitdem hat DMF eine Vielzahl von Filmen produziert, sowohl Spielfilme als auch Dokumentarfilme. Das Portfolio umfasst sowohl Filme, die ihre Geschichten durch Bild und Ton/Musik erzählen lassen, als auch Filme, die gezielt gesellschaftliche Missstände aufgreifen und damit sichtbar und erlebbar machen. Seit seiner Gründung ist DMF auf internationale Koproduktionen ausgerichtet. Sowohl in Europa als auch in Lateinamerika. Im Laufe der Jahre konnten in vielen der Länder, in denen die Filme produziert wurden, gute Netzwerke aufgebaut und ein Verständnis für viele kulturelle und auch filmwirtschaftliche Eigenheiten erworben werden. Neben der Tätigkeit als Produktionsfirma hat Dirk Manthey Film / Dirk Manthey in den letzten Jahren auch Line Producing, Executive Producing und Post Production Supervising für hochbudgetierte Fiction- und Doku-Fiction Filme übernommen.
