Eric Welbers was born in Cologne, Germany, in 1968. After studying business administration and economics at the University of Cologne, he obtained an MBA from the IESE Business School in Barcelona in 1996. In the same year, he took over the position of "International Sales Executive" at Beta Film.

Until 2001, he was Head of Business Development at Beta Film, responsible for distribution and co-productions with Latin America, Italy and Spain. He then left the Kirch Group together with Jan Mojto and founded Eos Entertainment. Since the merger of Eos Entertainment with Beta Film, Eric Welbers has held various positions in the management of the Beta Group at the operational levels of the company. Among other things, Eric Welbers managed Beta's television activities and was responsible for international distribution, production and co-production.

In May 2015, he left BetaFilm to become Managing Director of ndF: neue deutsche Filmgesellschaft. He then founded ndF International Productions with his co-CEO Matthias Walther and produced the series "The Swarm" together with Intaglio Films, based on the global bestseller by Frank Schätzing (to be broadcast in 2023). Other international co-productions, such as the German-French-Belgian series "Sophie Cross" and the Finnish streaming series "The man who died", are further major successes.

Eric Welbers is also managing partner of the Rome-based production company Viola Film S.R.L. and the Belgian company Bravado Fiction.
