UFA GmbH is the holding company for all German production activities of the international media and entertainment company Fremantle, which operates the worldwide production business of the RTL Group, which belongs to Bertelsmann.
Starting with Fritz Lang's films, the company founded in 1917 is closely linked to the history of German film. With its headquarters in Potsdam's Babelsberg district, UFA GmbH is one of Europe's oldest and most important production companies.
Today, five production units operate under the umbrella of UFA GmbH and offer an extensive and diverse product portfolio: UFA Fiction realises TV movies and TV events, series and serials, while UFA Serial Drama is the leading provider of industrial series productions. Major shows of all genres and high-quality factual programmes are produced by UFA Show & Factual. UFA Documentary focuses on documentaries, documentary hybrids and serial features. Finally, as the central distribution and sales arm, UFA Distribution is responsible for co-financing, exploitation and distribution of UFA film and television productions as well as for licensing the UFA rights catalogue.
