Series boss Katja Hofem announces 20 new German Netflix productions despite "turbulent times"

Netflix's Berlinale party: "We are experiencing stormy times"

Berlin. The streaming provider is represented at the 2024 Berlinale with two titles and continues to enjoy international success. This was the celebration.

Instead of "Netflix & Chill", it was "Netflix & Chill" on Sunday afternoon at the Hotel Telegraphenamt "Netflix Cocktails & Canapes". The ballroom was bathed in orange light, with the capital "N" emblazoned across everything. The US streaming service has gained 13 million new customers by making it more difficult to share passwords. Netflix series win awards and are very well received internationally.

The company impressively demonstrates its successful course at its Berlinale Party 2024: trailers for new productions and its biggest successes are shown non-stop on large screens on the walls: "Leave the World Behind", "Unorthodox", "Stranger Things" and "Nothing New in the West". Two Netflix productions will be shown at the Berlinale: "Spaceman" with Adam Sandler and "Supersex" about the porn star Rocco Siffredi. Both are screening in the "Berlinale Special" section for extraordinary productions.

Stars on Netflix: Veronica Ferres, Aylin Tezel, Tom Schilling

Whilst Aylin Tezel with "her best friend", the actor and director Jerry Hoffmann came, moved Tom Schilling ("A Million Minutes") alone and in a smart suit and dark red tie. Aylin Tezel says she used a 30-minute break today for a power nap and is therefore well rested. Her last premiere party "The Outrun" with Saoirse Ronan have kept them relatively short.

Tom Schilling also assures us that he has had enough sleep so far. But he doesn't seem to be in the mood for chatting. Clearly harmonises best visually Veronica Ferres with the purple and blue Netflix photo wall. The actress, who is currently filming a western with Pierce Brosnan which is being shown in Cannes, had put on a fringed dress in a matching colour.

Netflix series "Cassandra": Lavinia Wilson as an electronic home help

Another series that could prove interesting is "Cassandra", produced by Constantin subsidiary Ratpack: Michael Klammer and Mina Tander play a married couple. Lavinia Wilson plays an electronic domestic help from the 1970s who awakens from her slumber after 50 years and has a gloomy, antiquated view of the world. Only the actress's face can be seen in the role - on a monitor.

Netflix: These are the plans for the future

She is "very proud of what the team has achieved", says Katja Hofem, Vice President for Netflix content in the DACH region (Germany, Austria and Switzerland). First on the Oscar-winning Netflix production "Nothing new in the West"but also to the fact that the series "The Empress" won the international Emmy. The Sissi series continues, as does "Bridgerton.

"We are currently experiencing a turbulent time in this industry," Hofem announces. Nevertheless, the manager emphasises that the company will continue to invest in the DACH region. 20 local productions are planned.
