Veteran Joachim Kosack leaves UFA after 28 years

In February, UFA reported that Joachim Kosack was moving from the holding company management to the subsidiary Serial Drama. The Group has now announced that he will be leaving completely on 31 July 2024, while Markus Brunnemann, already a member of the management team at Serial Drama, will remain on the management board.

Potsdam, 19 March 2024. Joachim Kosack, Managing Director of UFA Serial Drama, will be leaving UFA on 31 July 2024. In future, the former Co-Managing Director Markus Brunnemann will head the UFA Serial Drama unit alongside his function as Co-Managing Director of UFA Fiction. Joachim Kosack worked for the UFA Group for 28 years with a six-year interruption.

UFA Serial Drama produces long-running daily series such as GUTE ZEITEN, SCHLECHTE ZEITEN, ALLES WAS ZÄHLT or UNTER UNS. It is also expanding the kids segment with programmes such as SPOTLIGHT and currently SKATEPARK (AT), a spin-off of GZSZ. The UFA unit is also active in the light fiction sector with formats such as LENSSEN ÜBERNIMMT and other developments. The producer of GZSZ at the UFA location in Potsdam-Babelsberg is Dominique Moro. The productions of ALLES WAS ZÄHLT and UNTER UNS at the UFA location in Cologne-Ossendorf are managed by producer Guido Reinhardt. Helga Löbel is the producer of SPOTLIGHT and the GZSZ spin-off SKATEPARK (AT), Nadia Wölfel is responsible for the production of LENSSEN ÜBERNIMMT.

After his time as a theatre director and cabaret artist, Joachim Kosack worked as head writer, director and producer for UFA Serial Drama (then Grundy UFA) from 1996 and as a producer for teamWorx from 2001. After holding positions at Producers at Work as a producer and at ProSiebenSat.1 as editorial director and as managing director of Sat.1, he returned to UFA in 2012 and became managing director of UFA Fernsehproduktion (now part of UFA Fiction). From 2013 to 2018, Joachim Kosack joined the management of UFA Fiction and in 2016 also took over the management of UFA Serial Drama, which he has headed together with Markus Brunnemann since 2017. In 2018, Joachim Kosack also joined the management board of UFA GmbH, from which he left in February 2024. During this time, he was responsible for corporate and HR strategy, anti-discrimination processes, digitalisation, diversity in front of and behind the camera as well as promoting young talent and training, among other things. Joachim Kosack has been teaching at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg since 2001 and has been Professor of Series Producing / Serial Dramaturgy there since 2005.
