The best European media productions have been honoured with the Prix Europa since 1987. The nominations for the award ceremony on 11 October in Berlin have now been announced. A total of 161 productions from 27 countries have been nominated for the Prix Europa nominated which will be awarded on 11 October in Berlin.

The prize was initiated in 1987 by the European Parliament, the EU Commission and the European Cultural Foundation and honours the best European media productions every year.

There are also 22 German productions among the nominees: Competing in the fiction category are the ARD series "Die Zweiflers" about a Jewish family in Frankfurt and their delicatessen empire, "Eher fliegen hier UFOs" by Gina Wenzel and Ingo Haeb about a family that runs a bakery in a town that is to be bulldozed for brown coal mining, and the six-part ZDF drama series "Push", which centres on the daily work of midwives, and Abini Gold's romantic drama "Zwischen uns die Nacht" with 20 other productions competing for the Prix Europa.

A total of 22 productions have been nominated for the Prix Europa in the documentary category, including part one - "Ascent" - of the three-part documentary series "VIVA Story" to mark the 30th anniversary of the launch of the music channel and "Eternal You - End of Finitude" about start-ups that use artificial intelligence to create digital avatars that make it possible for people to contact the deceased - and the first users of this technology.
