Filming has begun in Greece for the ZDF co-production with the working title "The Assassin". Keeley Hawes ("Bodyguard") plays a retired assassin, Freddie Highmore ("The Good Doctor") her son, with whom she has a more than awkward reunion.
The screenplays for the six-part thriller series were written by Harry and Jack Williams ("The Tourist"), Krissie Ducker ("Killing Eve"), Hamish Wright ("Significant Other") and Selina Lim ("Sex Education"). The film is directed by Lisa Mulcahy (episodes 1-3) and Daniel Nettheim (episodes 4-6), both of whom previously directed episodes of "The Tourist".
Contract killer Julie has retired from her dangerous life and lives on a remote Greek island. Just as her son Edward is visiting and trying to reconcile his relationship with his mother, which is anything but intimate, Julie's past catches up with them. Shortly afterwards, they are forced to flee the island. In a race against time, Julie fights to uncover a conspiracy and save her son and her relationship with him.
The film also stars Jack Davenport, David Dencik, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Gina Gershon, Alan Dale, Gerald Kyd, Devon Terrell, Richard Dormer and many more. "The Assassin" is a production of Two Brothers Pictures (an All3Media company; producers: Sarah Hammond and Daisy Mount) for Prime Video in the UK and Ireland, in co-operation with ZDF, All3Media International and the Australian streaming service Stan. Through this collaboration, ZDF is once again strengthening its international partnerships in order to jointly produce high-quality programmes. Laura Mae Harding is the editor in charge at ZDF. A broadcast date has not yet been set.
