In the current funding rounds, the Hesse Film & Media funding totalling 2,641,200 euros was approved. This will support 29 film projects in the areas of material development, production, promotion of young talent and distribution. In addition, 30 festivals and film series will benefit, including events with a large audience as well as formats specifically for documentaries, short films and films for children and young people.
A total of 600,000 euros was made available for various film productions. The funded projects include the new feature film by director Maria Speth, whose work "Man lebt, weil man geboren ist" ("You live because you were born") returns to fictional storytelling. She is receiving support totalling 175,000 euros for this project.
A special funding instrument is the "Setzkasten" tool, which is unique in Hesse and was also considered by the Main Jury. This programme gives filmmakers the opportunity to experiment, try out and reflect in the early phase of their project development.
In addition, 110,000 euros are available for the development of screenplays for four new projects by filmmakers from Hessen.
In addition, 1,581,000 euros will flow into the promotion of Hesse's diverse film festival landscape. The subsidised events include established formats such as the Lichter Filmfest Frankfurt International, which is supported with 170,000 euros, and the Kassel Documentary Film and Video Festival with 255,000 euros. Participatory projects such as the KUBU Children's Cinema, which actively introduces children and young people to the medium of film, also receive funding totalling 15,000 euros.
