As part of the comprehensive reform process within ARD, programme director Christine Strobl has initiated a realignment of the ARD coordinators. From 1 January 2025, five coordinators will take over control of the programme spectrum of the joint offerings "Das Erste" and the ARD Mediathek. This reorganisation will take place as part of the Video Programme Conference and in close coordination with the ARD Programme Directorate.
In future, each of the five coordinators will be responsible for a specific genre: fiction, entertainment, documentary, current affairs or sport. The organisational and personnel proposals of the ARD Programme Directorate were recently confirmed by the ARD directors.
The future coordinators from January 2025 will be:
- Sport: Axel Balkausky remains ARD Sports Coordinator and continues his work in the ARD Programme Directorate.
- News & Magazines: Oliver Köhr will retain his position as ARD Coordinator News & Magazines and will continue to act as ARD Editor-in-Chief and Deputy Programme Director.
- Entertainment: Andreas Gerling, Head of the "Show, Music and Quiz" department at NDR and Managing Director of ARD Coordination Entertainment, will take over the coordination of entertainment.
- Documentary: Ingmar Cario, currently Deputy Programme Director and Head of Programme Management Information, Fiction and Entertainment at WDR, will be responsible for coordinating documentaries in future.
- Fiction: Björn Wilhelm, Programme Director Culture at BR, takes over as Head of Fiction Coordination.
The coordinators are each appointed for a term of three years. This reorganisation is intended to ensure even more effective programme management and targeted further development of ARD's offering.
