For over 250 years, the myth of Mozart has cast a spell over more than just classical music fans worldwide. The series "Mozart/Mozart" (AT) retells this success story. The modern adaptation, which deals freely with the historical material, opens up an original and exaggerated perspective on the Mozart phenomenon - loud, colourful and emotional. And with an ensemble that is as glamorous as it is excellent.

Young stars Havana Joy ("Love Sucks") and Eren M. Güvercin ("Druck") take on the leading roles of siblings Maria Anna and Amadeus. Amadeus' future wife Constanze Weber is played by Sonja Weißer ("Maxton Hall - Die Welt zwischen uns"), while Peter Kurth ("Babylon Berlin") can be seen as Leopold Mozart. Other leading roles are played by Philipp Hochmair ("The Wannsee Conference") as Emperor Joseph II, Verena Altenberger ("The Best of All Worlds") as Marie Antoinette, Eidin Jalali as Antonio Salieri as well as Lisa Vicari ("Next Level"), Annabelle Mandeng and Jan Krauter. Filming, directed by Clara Zoë My-Linh von Arnim ("Druck", "Die Zweiflers"), will take place in Lithuania and Latvia until 11 June. The series is expected to be broadcast in December 2025 with six episodes in the ARD Mediathek and on TV channel Erste.

Content: In "Mozart/Mozart" (AT), Maria Anna Mozart gets the stage she deserves. She is always overshadowed by her brother Amadeus. He is the superstar. She is "only" his sister, "Nannerl", although she is an exceptional musical talent just like her brother. However, when Amadeus crashes and can no longer perform, the financial future of the "Mozart company" is suddenly at stake - and with it Maria Anna's personal freedom. In order to save Amadeus' career and herself, Maria Anna is forced to take on the role of her brother. She soon finds herself caught up in a web of royal intrigue, at the centre of which is the very man who falls head over heels in love with her: Antonio Salieri.

ARD (under the auspices of WDR), ORF and Story House Pictures tell this story in a humorous, tongue-in-cheek, musically playful and imaginatively pointed way. The performances of the Mozarts in Vienna at the end of the 18th century were no less spectacular than those of Beyoncé or Lady Gaga today. The costumes by Emmy-nominated Daiva Petrulyte ("Sisi", "Chernobyl") and the set design by Algis Garbaciauskas ("Sisi") are just as sensational as the characters. And the music by film composer Jessica De Rooij ("Sisi") and the electronica duo ÄTNA gives the character of Maria Anna an emotional profile all of her own. Because even if the history books can stay on the shelf with "Mozart/Mozart", the series reveals deeper truths about the search for freedom, identity and self-realisation, about talent and destiny - and above all about the love of music.

The fast-paced drama is being produced by Story House Pictures in co-production with ARD (WDR/SWR/ARD Degeto Film), ORF and the Dreaming Sheep Company. Bavaria Media is responsible for global distribution in co-operation with Beta Film. The producers of the series are Jens Freels and Andreas Gutzeit, who also jointly produced "Dignity" (JOYN) and four seasons of "Sisi" (RTL+) to date. Andreas Gutzeit is also responsible as head writer and showrunner. He wrote the scripts together with Swantje Oppermann ("Dignity"). Simona Weber is the producer. The ARD editorial team in charge includes Henrike Vieregge and Frank Tönsmann (in charge, WDR), Brigitte Dithard (SWR) and Christoph Pellander (ARD Degeto Film). The editors responsible at ORF are Andrea Bogad-Radatz and Nina Fehrmann-Trautz.
