Sarah Wedl-Wilson, the former State Secretary for Culture, is to become Berlin's new Senator for Culture. She takes over from Joe Chialo (CDU), who resigned on 2 May 2025. This decision was announced by the governing mayor Kai Wegner (CDU) in the Rotes Rathaus.

Wegner praised Wedl-Wilson as an experienced expert on Berlin's cultural scene and emphasised that she understood the challenges facing the cultural sector. A particular concern of hers is to maintain the high quality of Berlin's cultural institutions. Most recently, the German Cultural Council had suggested that Wegner herself should also take on the office of Senator for Culture, as former Mayor Klaus Wowereit had done. However, Wegner quickly decided in favour of Wedl-Wilson in order to create clarity.

Born in the UK in 1969, Wedl-Wilson has extensive experience in cultural administration and is considered an expert on Berlin's cultural scene. Before moving to the cultural administration in April 2023, she was Rector of the Hanns Eisler School of Music in Berlin for several years. Unlike her predecessor, she is not a member of the CDU.
