Sony Pictures has announced important changes to its management team. Sanford Panitch will remain President of the Motion Picture Group after his former Co-President Josh Greenstein leaves the company to join Paramount following its sale to Skydance. This departure is accompanied by a series of significant promotions within the studio.
Restructuring at Columbia Pictures and marketing team
Peter Kang is promoted to President of Production for Columbia Pictures. In the past, he has been involved in productions such as Bad Boys: Ride or Die and No Hard Feelings made a name for themselves. At the same time, Nicholas Weiss and Dave Fruchbom will become co-heads of the global creative and strategy teams. Andrea "Ange" Giannetti will take on an even more central role as Executive Vice President of Production and Senior Creative at Columbia Pictures.
The marketing department will also remain stable. Danielle Misher (Head of Theatrical Marketing) and Steven O'Dell (President of International Marketing and Distribution) will retain their current positions and will continue to manage the global campaigns. Weiss and Fruchbom will work directly with Misher and O'Dell in the future.
Strong team according to CEO Tom Rothman
Sony CEO Tom Rothman praised the outgoing Greenstein in an official statement and at the same time paid tribute to the new management team:
"We are sad to see Josh go - he has been a wonderful colleague for many years. But the key to a strong organisation is a deep team, and that's exactly what we have," Rothman said. He particularly emphasised the leadership qualities and creative strength of Weiss, Fruchbom, Misher and O'Dell. Peter Kang and Ange Giannetti also have the confidence of the management.
Panitch takes on greater responsibility
Sanford Panitch, who has been with Sony since 2016 and has headed the Motion Picture Group together with Greenstein since 2019, will be the sole President in future. He was instrumental in successful film series such as Spider-Man, Jumanji and Venom although under his aegis flops such as Morbius and Madame Web have arisen.
Panitch was optimistic about the future: "I'm delighted to be working with such an accomplished team - especially Ange Giannetti, who has exceptional experience. Our pipeline is full of exciting projects and we remain committed to the big screen."
A look at the upcoming films
Sony is planning a number of major productions for the near future, including Darren Aronofsky's crime thriller Caught Stealing, 28 Years Later: Bone Temple, Spider-Man: Brand New Day from the Marvel universe as well as a new Jumanji-part. The studio's focus thus remains clearly on major cinema productions and blockbusters.
