The Italian media group MFE-MediaForEurope has successfully completed its takeover bid for ProSiebenSat.1 and secured 75.61 per cent of the shares in the Unterföhring-based group. MFE will thus become the official majority shareholder of the German media company as of 16 September 2025.
The stake is made up of the shares tendered as part of the offer, previously held shares and additionally acquired shares. An important contribution was also made by the second major shareholder PPF IM LTDwhich contributed just under 15.7 per cent of its shares to the offer.
"The acquisition of the majority of shares by MFE is an important milestone for ProSiebenSat.1," said CEO Bert Habets. In future, the two companies intend to jointly cover a reach of over 210 million people in five core European markets - Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy and Spain. Habets also announced that the course would be set for closer cooperation and a sharper strategic focus in the coming weeks.
ProSiebenSat.1 itself continues to rely heavily on the Digital transformation of its business. At the centre of this is the streaming platform Joynwhich aims to further expand its position as the leading ad-financed service in German-speaking countries. The company anticipates significant double-digit growth in reach and user interaction.
The majority takeover of MFE will create one of Europe's largest TV and streaming providers. Industry experts expect that the stronger bundling of content, technology and advertising models could help both partners to better assert themselves in the highly competitive international media market.
