Queenstown/Tāhuna, Berlin, London - Filming began this week in New Zealand for the second season of the international crime series A REMARKABLE PLACE TO DIE which was launched in Germany under the title QUEENSTOWN MURDERS - TO DIE FOR is running. The sequel comprises six new feature-length episodes and relies on the tried-and-tested mix of thrilling murder cases and breathtaking scenery.
The series is produced by Screentime New Zealand in co-production with REAL FILM Berlin and ZDF, in co-operation with Banijay Rights. The new season will be broadcast on ZDF, Acorn TV (USA), Nine (Australia) and TVNZ (New Zealand).
The plot once again centres on the clever detective Anais Mallory (Chelsie Preston-Crayford), who investigates new mysterious cases - while at the same time secretly solving the murder of her friend Maya Staunton. The first season turned out to be a surprise success: with a market share of around 30% on TVNZ, strong viewing figures on the ZDF streaming portal and around one million viewers per week in Australia, the series delighted its international audience.
A special focus of the new season is on cultural authenticity: one episode is dedicated to the customs and language of the Māori. This episode is directed by Peter Burger (Ngāi Tahu) from a script by Dahnu Graham, while Darren Rewi from Take Tuia Consultancy accompanies the filming as a cultural consultant.

In addition to Chelsie Preston-Crayford, the cast once again includes Matt Whelan, Roimata Fox, Dahnu Graham and Michala Banas. New to the cast are Luke Arnold (Black Sails) and JJ Fong (Creamery). Guest roles are played by Roger Corser (Doctor Doctor) and Antonia Prebble (Westside).
In addition to Peter Burger, the film is directed by Josh Frizzell, Emmett Skilton, Victoria Boult and Charlie Haskell. Executive producers are Philly de Lacey (Screentime New Zealand) as well as Henning Kamm and Sibylle Stellbrink (REAL FILM Berlin).
