The nordmedia - Film- und Mediengesellschaft Niedersachsen/Bremen mbH is a new partner of the initiative "The special children's film"which was founded in 2013 to give children's films more visibility in Germany. With nordmedia, the network has grown to 29 partners from broadcasting, the film industry, funding organisations and politics.

nordmedia supports film, TV and media projects with around 13 million euros annually and now also supports the development of innovative children's films for young target groups, particularly from Lower Saxony and Bremen.

Since 2013, 14 films from the initiative have been evaluated, and two more are due to be released in cinemas in 2026. The projects to date have received more than 130 national and international awards, including the documentary film "Circus child"which was honoured with the Bavarian Film Award, among others.

The 14th call for entries is currently underway: 54 children's film projects were submitted by February, six of which will be selected for script development in April.
