The WDR and the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW have launched the Development Initiative "Made in NRW" started. The aim is the targeted promotion of Development phase of film, series and documentary projects for digital platforms such as the ARD Mediathek.

Funding for creative professionals in NRW

The programme presents 300,000 euros per year and supports up to six projects with a maximum of 50,000 euros. Eligible for funding are producers based or operating in North Rhine-Westphalia who, together with local talents, produce materials with Streaming perspective develop.

The projects are selected by a jury consisting of representatives of WDR, the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW and an independent member. The first round of applications is now open until 20 May 2026The jury will decide by 17 June 2026. A prerequisite for the application is a counselling interview with the funding officer Nazgol Majlessi and the submission of a Onepagers to the project.

Support beyond money

In addition to financial support, "Made in NRW" also offers Professional support and a Early evaluation perspective. If projects are not commissioned by WDR within twelve months, the rights revert completely to the creatives.

Dr Katrin Vernau, Director General of WDR, sees the initiative as an opportunity for more diversity and innovation: "We are giving creative minds in NRW the chance to implement original ideas and reach new target groups."

Walid Nakschbandi, Managing Director of the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW, adds: "The initiative strengthens quality, original material and the willingness to take risks made in NRW. Jury member Aylin Tezel also contributes creative expertise from the region."
