The US actors„ union SAG-AFTRA and the studio alliance AMPTP have agreed on a new collective labour agreement for film and TV productions. According to the official joint statement, this is initially a tentative agreement that still has to be confirmed by the union committees and members. Specific content has not yet been published.

Nevertheless, the agreement is of considerable importance for the German film and television industry. The labour agreements in Hollywood regularly set standards for international production conditions - especially for globally financed projects and co-productions with US participation. After the industry-wide labour disputes of recent years, the agreement means one thing above all: More planning security.

German producers, service providers and studios that are involved in international projects or act as filming locations will also benefit from this. Delays and uncertainties, such as those recently caused by labour disputes, could therefore be a thing of the past for the time being.

At the same time, the outstanding content of the agreement - for example on key future issues such as the use of artificial intelligence - is also likely to be closely monitored in Europe. Experiences from the USA often feed into debates here and can have an indirect influence on collective bargaining and regulatory developments.

The agreement not only marks an important step for Hollywood, but also sends an international signal for stabilisation and possible new standards in the film industry.
