Sky Deutschland is responding to the loss of some of its HBO content with a strategic expansion of its range of series. From July, the two AXN channels will AXN Black HD and AXN White HD are included in the entertainment package and are also available via the WOW streaming service.
The content is provided as part of a partnership with the media company High View. There are no additional costs for Sky customers. With this integration, the provider is expanding its portfolio to include more than 50 international series, totalling over 1,000 episodes.
The expanded range includes, amongst others, programmes such as „Yellowstone“, „Chicago P.D.“, „Kin“, „Sanditon“, „Damages“ and „Bookish“. The AXN channels, which originally formed part of the Sony portfolio and are now operated by High View, were already partially available on Sky in previous years.
This expansion is taking place against the backdrop of a changing market environment: with the launch of HBO Max in German-speaking countries, Sky has lost some of its exclusive HBO rights. The AXN deal is therefore part of a broader strategy to stabilise its range of series through international licensing partnerships and to fill the gap in the premium series segment.
Sky is thus placing greater emphasis on a diversified content portfolio that goes beyond individual major studio deals, and is responding to the increasing fragmentation of the streaming and pay-TV market.
