The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences As part of its annual expansion, it has invited 529 international filmmakers to become members. Among the new members are eight creative professionals from Germany, who will be eligible to vote in the Oscars in future.
The invitations extend to film professionals from almost every area of international film production – from acting, cinematography and music to visual effects and production design. According to the Academy, 95 of the newly invited members have already been nominated for an Oscar, 21 of whom are award winners.
Among others, the following actress from Germany was... Veronica Ferres as well as costume designer Sabrina Krämer. From the cinematography department, the following have joined the team: Markus Förderer and Juan Sarmiento at the Academy. The latter holds both Colombian and German citizenship.
In the field of music, the composer Karim Sebastian Elias filmed. The production design will henceforth represent Simon Weisse, who is particularly well known for his work with miniature sets and his regular collaborations with international directors.
In the Visual Effects segment, the supervisors were also Michael Ralla and Guido Wolter appointed to the Academy.
The Academy emphasised that the new members, drawn from all areas of the film arts, had made significant contributions to the global film industry. The aim of the expansion was to further strengthen international diversity within the organisation and to better reflect the global film industry.
With their appointment to the Academy, German filmmakers will in future have the right to vote in the Oscars and will become part of one of the most influential networks in the international film industry.
