FFF Bayern is launching a new start-up competition for young production companies. The aim of the initiative is to support up-and-coming producers in sustainably establishing their own companies, thereby strengthening Bavaria as a film production hub.
In 2026 and 2027, FFF Bayern will provide 180,000 euros for this purpose in each year. Each year, up to three young production companies may be awarded 60,000 euros each. The funds may be used, amongst other things, for staff, infrastructure, consultancy, market development, professionalisation and the development of new projects.
The competition is aimed at production companies with their registered office or place of business in Bavaria, which develop and produce audiovisual content and are still in the early stages of their business development. The focus is not on funding individual projects, but on the long-term development of the companies and their founders.
The initiative was proposed by students of Production and Media Management at the University of Television and Film Munich (HFF Munich). Applicants must, amongst other things, submit a business concept, a business plan and examples of previous projects. Recommendations from experienced industry representatives who are willing to support the companies as mentors are also required.
Following a formal assessment, selected candidates will be invited to give a pitch to an independent panel of experts. The criteria for assessment include, amongst other things, entrepreneurial potential, production experience, innovative strength and the company’s long-term viability.
The submission period begins on 31 August and ends on 25 September 2026. The first winners are due to be announced in autumn 2026. The start-up competition is initially limited to the years 2026 and 2027.
