Claus Grewenig remains Chairman of the Board of VAUNET. At the general meeting of the Association of Private Media, the Chief Corporate Affairs Officer of RTL Deutschland was re-elected for a further term of office. Michael Müller (ProSiebenSat.1), as Chair of the TV and Multimedia Division, and his deputy, Sebastian Kocks (RTL Deutschland), were also re-elected.
In terms of content, the association focused on the growing regulatory challenges facing private media. Following his re-election, Grewenig called for a faster pace in the implementation of media policy initiatives. When it comes to film funding and artificial intelligence, regulation must not lead to additional burdens. At the same time, there needs to be greater scope for investment and collaboration in competition with global tech platforms.
VAUNET identifies competition law, European digital regulation and the planned Digital Media State Treaty between the federal states as key areas of action, alongside film funding. The association intends to bring these issues together in an „Action Plan for Media Diversity by 2028“. The aim is to coordinate the policy initiatives of the federal government, the federal states and the European Union, and to improve the economic framework conditions for a competitive and diverse media landscape.
At the general meeting, VAUNET members also discussed current developments in media policy and regulation with Jan Ole Püschel, Head of the Media Department at the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media.
Grewenig sees a particular need for action when it comes to competition with global platforms. Independent media must be able to remain economically viable even in the context of the platform economy and artificial intelligence. VAUNET therefore intends to integrate its political objectives more closely by 2028.
