The German-Nordic co-development initiative Nordic NEST is entering its second round. Established screenwriters from Germany, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland and Iceland have until 5 November 2026 to submit ideas for fictional feature films or high-end series. The aim is to foster new collaborations between German and Nordic production companies.

Ten writers will be selected from the applications – five from Germany and five from the Nordic countries. They will further develop their projects from 11 to 15 January 2027 at the Nordic NEST Space on the Baltic Sea coast in Schleswig-Holstein. To be eligible to take part, applicants must have at least two feature-length film projects or series – or series episodes – in their portfolio that have been commercially released.

At the Gothenburg Film Festival, taking place from 30 January to 4 February 2027, participants will present their ideas to 20 producers from the participating countries. A subsequent matchmaking process is designed to foster German-Nordic production partnerships. For projects that bring together a German and a Nordic production company, MOIN Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein automatically provides treatment funding of up to 20,000 euros.

Once the treatment phase has been completed in spring 2027, three projects will be selected, each of which may receive script development funding of up to 60,000 euros. The fully developed scripts will then be presented to the international market at FilmFest Hamburg.

Nordic NEST was launched in 2025 by MOIN Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein in collaboration with the German Federal Film Board (FFA) and the funding initiative The Five Nordics.
