Bavaria Fiction and Engizek Films have begun filming „The Munich Billionaire“ in Munich. With this romantic dramedy, the production partners are experimenting with the parallel development of a vertical series and a feature film.

The project comprises around 50 episodes, each lasting approximately two minutes, which are being produced in the 9:16 portrait format for the 9n16 platform. At the same time, a standalone version is being developed in the classic 16:9 format, which is to be released internationally as a 90-minute film. Filming will take place in English, with André Siebert directing.

With this project, Bavaria Fiction is expanding its fiction expertise to include vertical fiction. The two formats are conceived jointly – from story development through dramaturgy to visual design – but are intended to make the most of their own narrative possibilities. The aim is to combine the requirements of short episodes designed for smartphone viewing with the quality standards of a traditional fiction production.

The launch of the Vertical series is scheduled for spring 2027.
