Based on the novel of the same name by Oskar Maria Graf: the two-part television film with the working title "Unruhe um einen Friedfertigen" is currently being made in Bavaria and Austria. Director Matti Geschonneck ("Die Wannseekonferenz", "Unterleuten") is staging the film adaptation with Josef Hader in the leading role based on the screenplay by Hannah Hollinger.
At the centre of the plot is the oppressive and touching story of shoemaker Julius Kraus (Josef Hader), who lives a secluded life on the outskirts of a Bavarian village community. He is drawn deeper and deeper into the maelstrom of dramatic political events between 1918 and Hitler's seizure of power in 1933, until an inheritance from the USA and the revelation of his Jewish identity become his undoing.
Sigi Zimmerschied, Frederic Linkemann, Verena Altenberger, Sebastian Bezzel, Antonia Bill, Helmfried von Lüttichau and Susi Stach also play leading roles in front of Theo Bierkens' camera.
"Unruhe um einen Friedfertigen" (working title) is a production of the Claussen+Putz film production (producers: Uli Putz and Jakob Claussen) in co-production with Film AG Produktion (co-producers: Alexander Glehr and Johanna Scherz) for ZDF and ORF; funded by FilmFernsehFonds Bayern, FISAplus, Fernsehfonds Austria, Land Salzburg; produced with the support of FILM in AUSTRIA. The responsible editor at ZDF is Daniel Blum, the ORF editor is Sabine Weber. Filming in Bavaria, Salzburg and the Salzburg region is expected to last until the end of October 2024; a broadcast date has not yet been set.
