Björn Böhning leaves the Production Alliance - move to the Federal Ministry of Finance
Berlin, 6 May 2025 - The Alliance of German Producers - Film, Television and Audiovisual Media (Allianz Deutscher Produzentinnen und Produzenten - Film, Fernsehen und Audiovisuelle Medien e.V.), or Produktionsallianz for short, is facing a change in leadership: Managing Director and Board Spokesman Björn Böhning will leave the association after three years on 12 May. He is following the call of the Federal Minister of Finance to the new Federal Government and will be working as State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Finance in future.
Martin Wolff, member of the Executive Board, recognised Böhning's work in a statement: "In Björn Böhning, the Production Alliance is losing a high-profile managing director who is highly regarded in the media, culture and politics. His departure is a great loss - but we know that he can achieve a great deal for our country in his new role."
During his time in office, Böhning made a significant contribution to the reorganisation and growth of the association. The Production Alliance, which represents around 300 production companies in the German film and television industry, is more structurally stable and politically visible than ever before, said Wolff.
Böhning himself also commented on the farewell: "It is with sadness that I leave the Production Alliance. Together, we have established the association as a strong voice for the industry. I will never forget working with the dedicated volunteers, the board and the teams in Berlin and Hamburg."
The Executive Board has agreed to terminate the contract by mutual consent and at the same time initiated a process to appoint a new Managing Director. The previous deputy managing director and legal advisor Wiebke Wiesner will take over the management of the association on an interim basis.
The industry is now eagerly awaiting the successor - at a time when the film industry is facing political and economic challenges and still needs a strong representative body.
